Jefferson City’s City Court is a limited jurisdiction court authorized under the Charter of Jefferson City and Tennessee Code. City Court handles violations of the city’s ordinances, including traffic, alcohol, animal control, business regulations, building and zoning codes, and other violations.

 

The City Judge presides over City Court and has the power to levy fines, penalties, and forfeitures in response to ordinance violations. The City Judge is appointed by the city council for a two-year term and is sworn in under the same oath required of the mayor and councilmen. Jefferson City’s current City Judge is Honorable Keith Repass.

Jefferson City’s City Court primarily handles traffic citations and parking tickets but has jurisdiction over all instances of violations of city ordinances. The City Judge has the authority to assess fines up to $50, or a maximum amount set by state law, for each offense.

 

When you receive a traffic citation, you must resolve it on or before the court date provided on the ticket. To contest a traffic citation, appear before City Court on the date/time printed on the ticket. Before appearing in City Court, make sure the court date listed on your ticket is for Jefferson City’s City Court and not the Jefferson County General Sessions Court. The City Court does not have jurisdiction over county traffic citations.

City Court is held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in City Hall, 112 City Center Drive.
