The Jefferson City Public Works Department oversees many functions in the city. The Public Works Department works hard to keep the city clean, safe, and functional.

Call Public Works at 865-475-6617 or the Water Plant at 865-475-3251. If you are calling after business hours, please call the Water Plant.

Call Before You Dig – 811

Before you dig, call 811 to make sure you do not unintentionally dig into an underground utility line. You should call 811 a few business days before you begin any digging project, from small projects like planting trees or installing a mailbox to large projects like building an in-ground pool. After calling, wait a few days to make sure all utilities have responded to your request before you break ground. Once all utilities have marked their buried lines, you may dig, but be careful around any utility marks.

Used Oil Receptacle

The Public Works Department has a used oil receptacle for public use at our office where you can dispose of your used oil. You can use this receptacle to dispose of any type of used oil, but please refrain from disposing any type of gasoline here. Anyone can bring their used oil to the receptacle during normal business hours. Please contact our office at 865-475-6617 before bringing your used oil so that we know you are coming.

Leaf Collection Schedule

The Jefferson City Public Works Department will be using our leaf collection machine to pick up leaves beginning Monday, October 26, 2020. Un-bagged leaves may be placed at the curb for pickup from this date until Friday, January 8, 2021. Leaves can also be placed in bags for pickup during this time. The leaf collection route will be the same as our regular brush pickup route depending upon the amount of leaves to be picked up. Please remember that the Public Works Department can not cover an entire day’s route during the height of leaf pickup season. Daily schedules are kept as to the location of the route. These locations may be obtained by contacting Public Works at 865-475-6617.
