Household Trash/Recycling Pickup

In Jefferson City, household garbage and recycling are picked up by Waste Connections of Tennessee. To sign up for trash and recycling services, call Public Works at 865-475-6617. Please do not place yard waste, recycling, electronics, or hazardous household waste in the trash. Recycling pickup is biweekly.

CaptureChanges are coming!

We’re excited to announce we’ve teamed up with Waste Connections to provide 95-gallon carts on wheels for ALL Jefferson City residents!

Residents should use their new blue carts ASAP. Beginning the week of April 4th, WC will dispose of old customer-owned containers. After that, WC will no longer service personal cans.

CaptureHow-to Properly Place Your New Cart

STEP 1: Close the Lid & Roll to Curb

Place all items inside the cart, completely close lid, and roll to curb. Please place all trash in bags to reduce litter.

STEP 2: Make Sure Cart Handle is Facing Your Home

The handle should face your home, so that the cart opening faces the road.

STEP 3: Carts Must Be Clear of All Obstacles

Make sure there is nothing in front of cart and atleast 4 feet of space or clearance on the sides. Everything much be IN THE CART for pick up.

STEP 4: To Stop Wind Spillage Bag All Trash

Due to the automated trucking dumping from above, wind may cause spillage if everything is not bagged.

Holiday Schedule

No trash, recycling, or yard waste will be picked up on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. During holiday weeks, if your normal pickup day occurs on or after the holiday, your pickup will be delayed 1 day.

Leaf Collection Schedule

The Jefferson City Public Works Department will be using our leaf collection machine to pick up leaves beginning Monday, October 26, 2020. Un-bagged leaves may be placed at the curb for pickup from this date until Friday, January 8, 2021. Leaves can also be placed in bags for pickup during this time. The leaf collection route will be the same as our regular brush pickup route depending upon the amount of leaves to be picked up. Please remember that the Public Works Department can not cover an entire day’s route during the height of leaf pickup season. Daily schedules are kept as to the location of the route. These locations may be obtained by contacting Public Works at 865-475-6617.

Brush Pickup

The Public Works Department oversees brush pickup in Jefferson City. To have brush removed, pile it in a single pile next to the road (but not on the road) where our truck can pick it up. Here are some other rules to follow:

  • No limbs longer than 12 feet
  • Contractors are required to remove limbs and debris
  • Do not pile brush under power lines
  • No stumps – the landfill does not accept them

Bulky Waste Pickup

The Public Works Department also oversees the pickup and removal of bulky waste. Please separate your junk and brush piles, as these items are picked up by different trucks and disposed of at different locations within the landfill. Some rules to follow:

  • No household garbage
  • No hazardous chemicals
  • No food or perishable items
  • No tires with rims attached
  • Do not pile bulky waste in the streets

Landfill and Waste Disposal Centers

The Jefferson County Sanitation Department operates the county’s landfill and waste disposal convenience centers. Jefferson City has two waste disposal centers, located at 330 Landfill Road and 560 Rocktown Road, where you can bring your household waste. These centers accept household bagged garbage and recycling. You can dispose of larger items and items not accepted for pickup or at the convenience centers by bringing them to the county landfill located at 650 Grove Road, Dandridge, TN 37725.
