123_1012Jefferson City is awarded its 2023 Tree City USA certification.

In partnership with the National Arbor Day Foundation and the TN Department of Forestry,  Jefferson City has worked diligently to maintain and improve the tree canopy in our community. This work has earned the certification of Jefferson City as a Tree City USA. For the 7th consecutive year, the City has been recognized as one of 45 municipalities in Tennessee to receive the award. The City maintains four core values of tree care: (1) The municipality maintains a Tree Care Ordinance (2) the Municipality seats an active Tree Board, (3) the Municipality allocates at least $2 per citizen towards tree programs, and (4) the Municipality observes an official Arbor Day celebration. Cooperating with City Public Works employees, Street Department employees and the public, the City of Jefferson City has achieved all of these goals. The Tree Board is seated with 5 citizens and Arborist, James Morgan serves as Jefferson City’s Urban Forester.

Jefferson City celebrated Arbor Day on April 28th  with a public tree planting event. A Redbud tree was planted at the City Water Plant on Hwy 11-E. This planting adds to over 100 additional trees that have been planted throughout Jefferson City over the past year. The City is proud to operate as a Tree City USA community.
